Facilitating innovative urban drainage systems

Urban drainage systems (UDS) reduce flooding risks and protect the environment as well as providing effective sanitation. However, many UDS are now at risk of failing to provide the expected level of performance. The EU-funded Co-UDlabs project aims to integrate targeted research and innovation activities in UDS by creating an urban drainage large-scale facilities network to provide opportunities for monitoring water quality, UDS performance and smart and open data approaches. The initiative will facilitate the uptake of innovation in traditional buried pipe systems and newer green-blue infrastructure, with a particular focus on increasing understanding of asset deterioration and improving system resilience. Co-UDlabs will develop innovative smart monitoring technologies, digital water analysis tools and help train scientists and innovators.
